Zongoene Lodge offers a host of attractions to entertain young and old and is ideal for couples or larger groups.
Whether you are seeking relaxation and tranquillity, opt to relax alongside one of the swimming pools while sipping on a tall, refreshing cocktail or discover the estuary on our relaxing river cruise at sunset. Those seeking thrill and adventure, explore the coastal forests on a quad bike, treat yourself to an exhilarating deep sea fishing trip or discover the surrounding areas such as Chicumbane, Bilene and Xai Xai with a self-drive excursion.
Young guests will be spoilt for choice with swimming pools, sweeping play areas and exploring the unspoiled dunes. The quad bike tours are a great family outing and promises ample adventure and excitement. Catching fish from the beach promised to keep them occupied and entertained.
Deep sea fishing
The Mozambique coastline offers some of the most spectacular sport fishing in the world. The Indian Ocean, unspoiled and largely unexplored, is ideal for exciting fishing holidays.
With the strong North to South Mozambican current, it harbours some of the world’s most exciting Game and Bill fish. Species such as Black, Blue and Striped Marlin, Sailfish, short-bill Spearfish, Wahoo, Dorado, various Tuna species, King and Queen Mackerel, Kingfish, Barracuda and Snappers are all found here. Both recreational and specialist fishermen are increasingly attracted to Zongoene Lodge to try their hand at luring these legendary species that have made this region so famous.
The best months for Black Marlin are between October and the end of January. Blue and Striped Marlin are found from September to January, while the main Sailfish season runs from the beginning of June until the end of September. From December to February anglers may see one of the most interesting creatures, the Whale Shark, the largest fish in the world, which can reach lengths of up to 14 meters and weigh up to 15 tons.
Deep sea fishing trips can be booked at the lodge reception. Trips lasts approximately four hours and include bait and tackle for each angler. Meal packs and drinks for the trip can be ordered from the boat captain or at the lodge reception.
Whale watching
Get up close to some of nature’s most majestic sea creatures between the months of June and December. Southern Right whales, Humpback whales and sometimes Minke whales make an appearance in the Mozambique Channel and feed on krill and copepods. Other whale species that can be seen are the Short-finned Pilot whale, the False Killer whale and the Dense Beaked whale.
Apart from the whales, dolphins, several species of turtles, schools of Tuna and sharks may also be spotted on the whale watching tour.
Whale watching tours lasts 2 – 3 hours and can be booked at the lodge reception. Meal packs and drinks for the trip can be ordered from the boat captain or at the lodge reception.
River cruise
Take a slow cruise down the Limpopo River estuary while listening to tales of the Limpopo valley and the great creatures who used to roam its banks. Sighting of crocodiles, rare bird species and the mangrove nursery will keep you on the edge of your seat as you meander down the majestic estuary. Be sure to bring your camera along to capture one of the most breath-taking sunsets you will ever live to see while listening to the ominous cry of the Fish Eagle.
Each trip lasts 2-3 hours and bookings can be made at the lodge reception. Meal packs and drinks for the trip can be ordered from the boat captain or at the lodge reception.
Quad bike trails
Zongoene Lodge offers an incredible 2-hour quad bike trail exploring the dunes, lighthouse and the coastal forests. Discover the untouched beauty surrounding the lodge, alive with mischievous Vervet monkeys, unique species of birds and small antelope. Guest can also opt for a guided scenic day tour to a neighbouring town, namely Bilene, where guest can enjoy a delicious lunch and swim, before returning home.
Guests are welcome to bring their own quad bikes to Zongoene Lodge, provided the rules and regulations are followed.
